Changelog
What shipped, and when.
- A location can sit inside another location, to any depth. A parent location’s counts and searches include everything beneath it.
- Dates and times follow the garden’s time zone and the reader’s language on every page, and backups run at 2 AM garden time.
- An expired or invalid invitation link opens a page that says which one it is. Forgot password sends an invited user a new invitation link.
- A record page for a user with read-only access lays its sections out in columns on a wide screen.
- Sepal is available in Spanish. Choose a language on your profile page, or keep English even when your browser asks for Spanish.
- Observations replace notes on material. An observation records what someone saw and when, with a type and a value that can be counted.
- You can record propagation from a garden’s own stock, from the parent accession or a single plant.
- Media thumbnails are resized instead of loading the full upload.
- A location has a Media tab, and every media grid has a Small, Medium and Large size control.
- The material list shows each plant’s status and has an Only living material checkbox.
- The separator between accession and material codes is a setting, and code templates accept a
{letter}token for codes such as2026.0001A. - The accession, collection and propagation forms refuse dates in the future.
- Switching tabs on a record no longer reloads the page.
- You can delete accessions, material, taxa, locations, contacts and collections.
- Accession and material codes can follow a template set in Settings, such as
{year}.{seq:0000}, and the create form fills in the next code. - Search finds a plant by its common name, and a taxon’s panel lists its vernacular names.
- A quoted phrase in search matches as a phrase, and a word with a leading
-excludes records that contain it. - You can record the parents of a hybrid, and the
parentage:search field finds every taxon with a given parent in its cross. - The taxon form suggests a rank and a parent from the name you type.
- Pickers are rebuilt so that a screen reader announces each one by its label. Results are ranked by how well they match.
- You can archive a location that is no longer in use. An archived location keeps its history but leaves the pickers.
- A contact can be a person without a business name, and has separate fields for street, second line and city. Nursery, seed bank and arboretum are new contact types.
- The app works on a phone. The navigation drawer closes after you choose a section, and the record panel opens over the page.
- Edits to an accession’s collection details appear in the activity log, and the feed groups events by the garden’s day instead of by UTC.
- A self-hosted instance can declare that its backups are managed elsewhere, and Settings then shows only the list of downloads.
- Sepal records a garden’s accessions, the material that stands in its locations, and the taxa they belong to. Taxon names come from the World Flora Online Plant List, with synonyms and distribution.
- An accession records what was received and how much, its intended location, its supplier contact and any wild collection data.
- You can attach media, tags and notes to records, and every change appears in the activity feed.
- Full-text search covers every list, and a query builder adds field filters.
- An owner invites users and gives each one a role, including read-only access.
- Sepal runs as one process with one SQLite database, so you can host it yourself with Docker. A setup wizard creates the first user and downloads the taxon data, and backups run on a schedule.
- This site has docs, a blog and this changelog.
