What is Sepal?
What Sepal does, who it is for, and the four records it is built on.
Sepal is a plant collection manager for botanic gardens, arboreta, nurseries, and personal collections. It records what you hold, where each plant came from, and where every plant is now.
Four records carry almost everything in the app. A taxon is a botanical name, an accession is one arrival of one taxon, a material is a quantity of an accession at one place, and a location is a place that holds material. The setup wizard offers to import the World Flora Online Plantlist, so most instances already hold the names you need and you search for a name instead of typing it.
If plant collection management is new to you, the glossary’s further reading points at published guidance on the practice itself.
To use all four records on one real arrival, work through Your first week.
